We all get tired. Spiritually. Emotionally. Physically. Many of us are tired in our soul. We chase what we think is going to make us happy, satisfied, or content. We wear ourselves out trying to achieve success only to find it's a moving target. We battle constant disappointment as we try to meet other people's expectations or measure up to our society's definition of "the good life."
Unfortunately seeking solutions to problems from the wrong sources is not only futile, it's exhausting.
So where do we look for rest?
Where do we find answers to our tiresome questions, comfort for our myriad of fears, peace in a turbulent world? The truth is, our souls only find rest in hope. What are you putting your hope in? On Sunday we learned that in Jesus we have the answer to every question, concern, fear, and need we will ever have. And believing this powerful truth can give our souls the rest it needs. Remember this simple map to the free and light life God has called us to:
- Believe (acceptance)
- Abide (relationship)
- Follow (action)
Jesus wants our souls resting on the surety that he will keep his promises to us in the best way at the best time. When Jesus says, “Come to me,” he’s saying "believe in who I claim to be; therefore, what I am able to do for you."
Because all the promises of God are found in Jesus, his statement to you and I is, "Yes."
- Yes, I love you. (Romans 5:8)
- Yes, I have life for you. (Jeremiah 29:11)
- Yes, you’re valuable and important. (Psalm 139:13-16)
- Yes, I want to be in relationship with you. (Romans 8:28)
- Yes, I forgive you. (1 John 1:9)
- Yes, you’re free. (Acts 13:38-39)
Have you made Jesus Lord of your life? If you are unsure, today can be the day you do that; He stands ready to take your needs and meet them. Just tell Him “Jesus, I’m tired. I don't want to be like this anymore. I'm placing all my trust in you to be my Savior from my sin. From now on I’m asking you to run my life and lead my steps. Amen.”
If you just prayed that prayer today for the first time please let us know so we can journey with you.
Whether you've just made a decision or you've been walking with Jesus awhile, take some time this week to reflect on these questions. Then pray and ask God to help you where you're struggling.
- When my soul gets tired, what habits, thoughts, or circumstances do I turn to?
- Do I believe every one of the (above listed) promises from God? Which ones do I struggle with, and why?
